How to Be a Part of our Film Festival

Are you ready to make your cinematic masterpiece? Before you get busy splicing, cutting, and fading your footage, take a second and look over the rules below to make sure you’re eligible to participate.

1. Study Abroad with Us

Have you studied abroad with us yet? If not, you’ll need to first apply to one of our academic, language, research, internship, or summer programs and complete your study abroad experience. After you finish your study abroad adventure you’ll be able to participate in our Study Abroad Film Festival!

2. Learn About our Submission Categories

  • A Day in the Life  (90 seconds maximum)
Your day is more extraordinary than you realize- show us what it looks like! Submit to this category to give a brief, but vibrant glimpse into your day-to-day life abroad.
  • Creative Short  (10-minute maximum)
Creative Shorts can be stories of personal development and reflection, music videos, explorations of social issues and events in your host country, reenactments, and more.
  • Documentary  (No time limit)
We want to learn from you! What did study abroad teach you about the world? Submit your film to this category if your film provides factual information on a topic or theme, or was created as part of a film course.

3. Confirm Your Eligibility

We invite SAF alumni since January 2017 to submit up to 3 short films to our 2019 Study Abroad Film Festival.

4. Submit Your Film

Think of your unique study abroad story and then get to work on telling that story through film! The deadline to submit to the 2019 Study Abroad Film Festival is August 1, 2019. All films in a foreign language require English subtitles to participate in the Festival, and each participant can submit up to three films.

5. Get Ready to Compete!

Out of a pool of semi-finalists, our jury will select the top three student films for public voting on the basis of capturing the spirit of study abroad, production quality, entertainment, and originality.

These three finalists will each be awarded $500 for their films, and the grand prize winner, decided by a public vote, will receive an additional $1,000!

Please note, Terms & Conditions do apply to all entries for the Film Festival, Check out the full Terms & Conditions to learn more.
