As one of the world's very best universities, University College London (UCL) ranks 7th in the world in the most recent QS World University Rankings. What’s more, UCL consistently places in the global top 20 universities in a wide range of world university rankings.

An urban adventure awaits SAF Scholars who embark on a course of study at this university. London, home to UCL, is the largest and one of the most fascinating cities in the United Kingdom. SAF Scholars who choose to studying abroad at UCL will enjoy hands-on education in an iconic city. Think Big Ben, Parliament, Buckingham Palace and so much more!

SAF Scholars will be able to explore contemporary London, both physically and culturally. Gain a deeper knowledge of British culture, including the central importance of history to the British perspective. Explore the global impact of Britain on Western culture, including art, literature, and financial and political systems.

Also, the UCL campus is very diverse, with around 41 percent of its students hailing from more than 145 countries worldwide. The campus has a friendly and cosmopolitan atmosphere, and professors work hard to embed a global perspective in all course programs.

Program Strengths

UCL Presessional English program courses are intensive, with class sizes that are intentionally kept small to maximize student attention. The program follows a mixture of classes each week. The program includes a weekly lecture from a leading UCL educator, exposing SAF Scholars to various disciplines and world-leading research.

Number of Classroom Hours Per Week

15 hours per week (class hours equal 50 minutes) focusing on developing English language proficiency, academic literacy and critical thinking skills.

Number of Levels

There are two levels: a 6-week program and an 8-week program. Entry week depends on the starting English-language test score.

Progression or Concurrent Notes

Pre-sessional courses vary by length: 6 or 8 weeks . The length of Pre-sessional course depends on the SAF Scholar’s academic offer and their current level of English.

If a scholar already hold an unconditional offer to study at UCL, they can still take a pre-sessional course (6 weeks) before the beginning of the degree program to help develop academic skills, and become familiar with UCL and academic life in the UK.

Co-/Extra-Curricular Opportunities or Programs

Outside of the rigors of studies, there’s plenty for SAF Scholars to do, see, enjoy and get involved in. The UCL Student Union runs a wide range of activities. Its 250 clubs and societies are all run by students. The groups cover a variety of interests from Sport and culture to arts and faith, and are open to all UCL students.

Life on Campus

International Students’ Orientation Program (ISOP), which takes place in September and again in January, is ideal for incoming SAF Scholars. The program is a great way for scholars to be introduced to London and to UCL. Aside from the formal and informal sessions held by UCL that help students become familiar with the university and its surroundings, there are a number of ISOP events that are open to SAF Scholars, including pub quizzes, breakfasts, walking tours and game nights.
