Culture: Supportive, instructive
Neighborhood: Surrounded by nature, neighborly
Housing: Homestay
English level: Beginner - intermediate

Safe, friendly, and beautiful are three words SAF Scholars will often hear full-time students say when describing the University of Victoria (UVic). With a maximum of 18 students in each class, SAF Scholars can experience the personalized and welcoming community firsthand.

Nature abounds on this park-like campus. Out door activities are common — it’s no surprise, as the campus reflects the city around it. Victoria is considered one of the best cycling communities in Canada.

Activities occur throughout the year, as the city has some of the mildest weather in Canada. By taking a quick 15-minute bus ride, SAF Scholars can enjoy all the amenities and charm of downtown Victoria.

Student Profile

SAF Scholars seeking a supportive English language learning experience within a charming community would enjoy UVic. With close access to the ocean and mountains, outdoor enthusiasts would also enjoy the numerous outdoor activities that Victoria provides.

Co-/Extra-Curricular Opportunities or Programs

Beyond the instructors and fellow students, SAF Scholars will frequently interact with Cultural Assistants (CA), who help to organize events and activities outside of the classroom as well as serve as an excellent way to practice English with a native Canadian. Trips and activities occur throughout the year, from whale watching and hockey games to visits to Vancouver and so much more!

Life on Campus

While English courses take place in the Continuing Studies Building, SAF Scholars enjoy the park-like campus in its entirety. Restaurants, cafes, a pharmacy, and even a movie theatre exist on campus, allowing students to become ingratiated within the student population.
