SAF International Career Development Partners

SAF is committed to providing the highest quality work- and career-related opportunities possible. To do so, SAF works with partners who have extensive experience and established reputations in this specialized field.

The Academic Internship Council (AIC): Pre-professional Work Experience

AIC, formerly known as EUSA North America, is SAF’s partner organization for pre-professional, non-credit, full-time work opportunities in North America:  Boston, New York, San Francisco, Toronto.  EUSA, the parent organization of AIC, was established in 1984 and is best known for its 25 year partnership with the highly-regarded Boston University London Internship Program.  In 2011, EUSA restructured in the USA establishing AIC as a fully independent, non-profit internship and pre-professional work provider in North America.  AIC programs facilitate student growth through well-rounded, professionally-oriented work placements that combine cultural and professional development experiences based on each participant’s aspirations, skills and experience. AIC believes the best way to deliver these experiences is through close, collaborative partnerships with organizations such as SAF and expert, local support for students throughout the work experience.  AIC programs will start in 2013.

Foundation for International Education (FIE):  Academic Internship

FIE, established in 1998, is a successful non-profit organization with considerable expertise in providing London–based internship programs in partnership with leading US universities including American University, Drexel University, Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The range of FIE internship placements reflects the diversity and internationality of social, cultural, political, scientific and economic activity in London.  FIE is noted for the quality and depth of its support facilities and resources. FIE’s specialized academic course allow students to maximize the value of their stay in London, gaining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, life experience and an international perspective.  The academic courses at FIE are offered to both SAF and US study abroad students also attending FIE.  Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA is the school of record for FIE.  This means SAF students will earn academic credit for the FIE internship through Drexel.

The Washington Semester Program:  Academic Internship

The Washington Semester Program (WSP), established in 1947, is one of the oldest and most prestigious academic internship programs in the US.  SAF has been affiliated with WSP since 2000.  In addition to US federal government offices, many businesses and organizations have offices in DC making the Capital City an unsurpassed location for internship placement.  Through WSP seminars, students also have many opportunities to meet and speak with influential people and leaders in an exceptionally wide range of fields and industries.  American University, a private, co-educational university founded in 1893 by a US Act of Congress, administers the WSP and provides the program’s accreditation.
